Resident Activities

The Activity Department strives to offer a wide variety of individual, small group and large group events to provide mental stimulation and socialization to better meet the interests of our residents. We encourage family members and friends from the community to join our activities. Please explore our activity calendar link below to see if there is anything that interests you, but remember there are occasionally last minute changes that occur!

There are numerous health benefits to remaining active. We encourage everyone to remain physically active through exercise classes (provided through Saxon Rehab) or outdoor activities and walks around the property. We offer mental challenges through word games such as Giant Crossword, Scrabble and Word Fun. There are educational groups such as History Mystery and Draw a Blank. Or residents can sit back and be entertained by movies and entertainers (music and more!). Who can forget about the ever popular BINGO!!! Residents have the opportunity to play Bingo 2-3 times per week and they can earn “Bingo Bucks” to spend on prizes or at the Boutique and monthly Clothing Sale. Our Activities Employees also provide one to one visits for more personalized interactions and support.

There are many opportunities for residents to worship and spread the Joy of the Lord. There are daily chapel devotions, Sunday services, a weekly Catholic Mass and small groups that get together in prayer.

VOLUNTEERING AT SUNSHINE CHRISTIAN HOMES

We have many volunteer opportunities for anyone that wishes to support our community. Volunteers are utilized to help push wheelchairs to activities, encourage interaction with residents during activities, serving snacks and beverages, assisting dietary with rolling silverware, and accompanying residents on outings for shopping or restaurants. Several of our volunteers are also residents that find a sense of purpose in helping others! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Activities Department for more information. ALL VOLUNTEERS are required to complete a “Volunteer Packet”. This may be done at our facility or you may click here to download the PDF document to print out and complete at home.

SUNSHINE CHRISTIAN HOMES AUXILIARY

The Auxiliary sponsors fundraisers and events on a regular basis to provide additional support to the residents. Their fundraising efforts include a monthly clothing sale and an annual Attic Sale (open to the surrounding community). The Auxiliary Committee meet the second Thursday of September, November, January, March and May to discuss their fundraising efforts and how to best utilize the money they have received. Funds have been used to purchase equipment and furnishings for Sunshine Christian Homes, Inc. and to supply the boutique available Monday – Saturday for the residents to purchase small items on-site.

The Auxiliary sends Christmas and birthday cards to every resident with a small gift. This gives a “personal” touch to our home and helps each resident feel special. The members of the Auxiliary have a direct impact on the community feeling we depend upon to help put the “HOME” in Sunshine Christian Homes. If you are interested in joining the Auxiliary there is an annual fee of $5.00 or $25.00 for a lifetime membership.
